Khodadad Mikhchi - Psychologist and EMDRAA Accredited Practitioner
Khodadad has maintained a successful private practice for a number of years, during which he has conducted treatment programs for a diverse range of mental disorders such as PTSD, other trauma related disorders, dissociation, attachment repair, pain management, anger management, phobia, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, OCD, substance related and addictive disorders as well as work related injuries. Khodadad has a special interest in trauma, dissociation, attachment (adult attachment styles) and its impact on development of mental disorders and treatment. EMDR is the main clinical approach which Khodadad practises (Master Class).
Khodadad gained his registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Psychology Board of Australia through the 4+2 internship program (3000 hours of supervised clinical psychology practice). Khodadad then completed a Master of Work and Organisational Psychology; his thesis was supervised by Professor Tony Winefield. Khodadad has over 18 years of extensive experience offshore and onshore within the mental health and corporate sectors from psychotherapy, injured workers returning to work, Employment Assistance Programs, conducting and assessing workshops on mental health related topics, and Clinical and Organisational psychology assessments.
Prior to immigrating to Australia in 2006, Khodadad practised psychology in Iran for several years in the different fields of sport, clinical and organisational psychology. In Australia, Khodadad initially worked with a Humanitarian Settlement Service provider (previously known as the Integration Humanitarian Settlement Service) as well as the torture and trauma counselling team.
In 2010, Khodadad joined Mental Illness Fellowship South Australia to establish a community based program with a specific focus on delivering psychological rehabilitation services. The program expanded to provide services to homeless people with mental illness in the Adelaide metropolitan area.
Khodadad then worked as a senior psychologist (Class A Return to Work psychologist) with De Poi Consulting to conduct vocational assessments and evaluate injured workers’ actual and potential abilities, cognitive skills, aptitudes and competencies in the WorkCover system. He also worked with Orana, a disability service provider, to conduct capacity and intelligence assessments. Then, he delivered EAP and critical incident response services as a senior consultant with Converge International.
